I’m hoping to get some feedback on my cover letter. This is the first one I’ve needed to write, and I’m hoping it’s okay. I put some things in parentheses just for anonymity here. Thanks in advance!
Dear Chef (Name),
I have read wonderful things about your restaurant and am writing in hopes you may have a line cook position coming available in May or June. I am transitioning from a military career to one in the culinary field, for which I have always had a passion. My husband and I want to relocate to be closer to family, and (City) is both a perfect middle ground and a city we love.
I will be obtaining my Associate in Applied Science in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University this May. For the past seven months I have been working under Chef (Name) at two of his restaurants, (Restaurant 1) and (Restaurant 2). I have successfully operated many kitchen positions during lunch and dinner services and have been creating daily lunch specials for several months now. Many of my ideas were used for (Restaurant 1)’s most recent lunch menu.
Enclosed is my resume which contains additional information on my experience and skills. I believe I would be an asset to your kitchen and would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding a position of line cook. Please call me anytime at (Phone Number). Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
(My Name)

How do you fit Objective, Summary of Qualifications, Experience & Education on 1page?
Is cover letter recommended?
How many bullets or points should be listed for each job?
Do you need to list only experience that applies to the job you are seeking?
Any tips or suggestions will be helpful. Thanks

I’ve started practicing making a range of pastries at home. I’m interested in eventually going to school for the pastry arts, but for now, I just want to get my foot in the door of my local confectioneries/ bakeries. How should I get in touch with them, seeking some unpaid position for sweeping up & running errands, etc., then being an apprentice? Should I send a cover letter, make a phone call or just walk in & state my case?

I know its best to address a cover letter to a specific person. However, if its a large company…. say Johnson & Johnson and I can’t find any specific hiring managers then what title should I address the letter to? Or is there a proper way to go about calling to find out the name of a specific manager? I appreciate any insight.

For awhile, I had my CL & resume together as one document. Then, some places have "cover letter" and "resume" uploading sections. On the application that I just completed, they ask for the "resume" to be pasted into the box. So that was all I placed there. I’m worried that it looks bad to not have a cover letter. I know the contact information of the lady in charge, but I don’t know if i should ask if she wants it, or just e-mail it, or if I should wait?
Please give me advice. I’m going to be an excellent employee, if only I could get a job.
this is for an RN position.

I’m going to apply for a job at Limited Too and was wondering if I should turn in a resume and/or cover letter too? Would that help my chances of getting the job?
If I do make a resume, should I include refrences too? Even though they would be family? & I did a lot of community service about 2 years ago, but not that much since, so should I put that on the resume even though it was a while ago?
I really want a job and have been having some trouble since I don’t turn 16 for another 5 weeks…and most places want you to be 16…
I need any help and all the advice I can get please!
Thanks in advance

I applied for a job last week. Hand delivered my cover letter and resume hoping to speak to someone in management but they were not available. I don’t want mine to be put in the pile with the rest. I want to send some kind of follow up letter that will pull my resume out of the pile again for a closer look. What should I do? I would really appreciate your advice!

Wrong section. Sorry. Should be Careers & Employment. But thanks for the help!
Has anyone else sent a follow up letter or phone call?

What are some good lines to write in a cover letter for a college student that’s about to graduate? I’ll only have an associates degree in business & my work history only consists of p/t retail jobs. Im trying to find a clerical job that I can use my degree in. I had a clerical job about 3 yrs. ago helping out in HR and Payroll mostly, is this still acceptable to use as a job experience even though it was 3 years ago?
I’m trying to put more emphasis on the courses I’ve taken like business management, accounting and computer courses and how I’m looking forward for an opportunity to work with a company that I can grow and gain experience with, is this the right approach? How can I word that? Im more of a short sweet and to the point kind of person, so coming up with great lines and big words is pretty difficult for me. I don’t want to sound desperate in my letter but I want to get a job where I can at least get my foot in the door and move on with my life. Any advice?? Thanks!
